News from Down Under Dive Shop








Well it was another awesome weekend in the Gulf of Mexico.  
If you were off planting food plots or watching football, you really missed out.
Wednesday, the Down Under Crew went on a mission to make the Whiskey Wreck a no boating zone.  By the end of the week we were getting reports of Mantas and all sorts of rays visiting our little wreck..
We enjoyed a great dive on the Notch Barge we had zero jellies and zero current.  Water temp was 81.  It was awesome being stormed by the huge schools of amberjacks.  It was also exciting to see a that sandbar shark come and check us out on the safety stop.
Navy Tug was amazing as always with its 100' viz and one of the biggest loggerhead sea turtles ever.

 The USS Liberty Ship Allen put on a show.  This historic vessel was loaded with life blue angels, bar jacks, barracuda, mackerel, blue fish, snapper, and the list goes on. 


We also ran a few quick trips out to the Southwind Barge viz was 40' to 50' and seas weren't nearly as big as they were further offshore.  Divers enjoyed the extended bottom time and interactions with the friendly little soapfishes.   There were two really nice toadfish grunting all over the wreck too.


We also welcomed a new batch of divers this past week.

 PADI Open Water: Maxim Fokim, Stephens Mcvea, Brian Smith, Neal Sicard, and Mitchell Holder.

Rescue Divers: Niki Fontaine, Ransom Oakes, Tyler Sundie, and Jason Mcdanal.
PADI Master Divers: Bud Howard, John Rice, and Jessica Polk.
How about a round of applause for all of Down Under's newly certified divers.

Adventures in Diving Weekend with Beth October 20th 21st

The PADI Adventure Diver weekend includes two days of diving with IDC Staff Instructor Beth Schrader at the Springs and experiencing the newest equipment and latest trends in diving (ie sidemount diving)

The PADI Adventure Diver course helps you get more out of diving by introducing you to new types of scuba diving adventures. It’s a great opportunity to work with your instructor to build your scuba diving skills and gain more confidence.

Here are the hard and fast regulations that we must follow as gas blenders and safe divers.   No cylinders will be overfilled more than 10% period. Here are the facts. Dive The Historical Whiskey Wreck with Down Under Dive Shop

  The Whiskey Wreck is a shore dive from Gulf Shores located roughly 150 yards due south of the beach and Bahama Bob’s Café. It lays just beyond a sandbar offshore, and that sandbar provides a useful landmark and staging area. The wreck is a 200-foot rum runner boat in less than 20 feet of water. That depth is shallow enough for snorkelers, non-divers on a Discover Scuba Dive, and Open Water divers alike to enjoy the wreck.

 Sidemount diving enables a unique way of buoyancy control resulting in a more streamlined profile that reduces drag making finning and moving through the water easier and more efficient. Offers a greater comfort level as sidemount equipment and harness can be custom fit to each individual, accommodating divers of all shapes and sizes.
